Primary Care in Dagenham
Over the last few years primary care services have developed significantly across Barking & Dagenham and this includes services provided to the residents of Goresbrook Ward.
Service developments have focused on both providing new services and improving the quality ofexisting services, in the last 2 years the following services have been put in place:
- Combined walk-in-centre and general practice at Broad Street that will provide services for the residents of Goresbrook
- In February 2009 two new health centres will open at Barking Town Centre (with a focus on services for children) and Porters Avenue (with a focus on services for people with long-term conditions - diabetes, respiratory and heart failure as examples). Both centres will also have new GP practices opening in February.
- Range of outpatient services provided from Broad Street that were previously only provided in hospital settings, your GP can now refer you for some dennatology, ENT, Minor Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology and Neurology appointments at Broad Street
- Phlebotomy (blood testing) can now be carried out at many health centres rather than just in hospital settings, ask your GP where these services can now be provided from
- Over 90% of general practices in the Borough now offer extended hours with many offering evening appointments for convenience
- Residents of B&D have more choice as to where they can receive surgery with the Northeast London Treatment Centre providing orthopaedic, cataract and general surgery in addition to traditional NHS options
These are tangible examples as to how healthcare services have developed locally in the last few years for the residents of Goresbrook ward and for the residents of B&D as a whole.
